चीटियों का गुण है – परिश्रम करना । जाड़ा हो या गरमी था फिर बरसात, निरंता काम करती रहती हैं। आइए, जानें कि वे ऐसा क्यों करती हैं।
गरमी का मौसम था। तेज़ धूप के कारण भयंकर गरमी पड़ रही थी। दोपहर के समय सभी अपने-अपने घरों में आराम कर रहे थे। ऐसे समय में भी चींटियाँ आराम नहीं कर रही थीं। वे खाने की सामग्री अपने घर में इकट्ठा करने में व्यस्त थीं। शायद वे भविष्य के लिए संग्रह कर रही थीं।
वहीं पर एक टिड्डा भी आराम से लेटा हुआ था और गाना गा रहा था। उसने चींटियों को देखा तो हँसने लगा और कहा, “अरे । लालची चींटियो! क्यों इस गरमी में जान दे रही हो? थोड़ा सुस्ता लो।। तुम सब कितनी लालची हो! मुझे देखो, मैं कितने आराम से मज़े ले रहा हूँ।“
रानी चींटी बोली, “टिड्डे भाई! हम लोग बरसात के दिनों के लिए खाने सामान इकट्ठा कर रहे हैं। तुम्हें भी भविष्य के लिए कुछ इकट्ठा कर लेना चाहिए।
टिड्डा ज़ोर से हँसा और बोला, “कल की कल देखी जाएगी। अभी से , मरूँ?” उसे चींटियों की बात समझ में नहीं आई।
गरमी के बाद बरसात का मौसम भी आ गया। आकाश में मेघ घिर आए। देखते-ही-देखते पानी बरसने लगा। धरती पर पानी-ही-पानी दिखाई पड़ने लगा ऐसे समय में चींटियाँ ज़मीन के अंदर चली गईं। उनके पास तो खाने का काफ़ी सामान था। वे आराम से समय बिताने लगीं। इधर, टिड्डे के लिए भोजन जुटाना मुश्किल हो गया। वह भूखों मरने लगा। उसे चींटियों की याद आई।
टिड्डा चींटियों के पास पहुँचा और बोला, “चींटी बहन! कृपा कर मुझे भी खाने के लिए कुछ दे दो। मैं बहुत भूखा हूँ।”
रानी चींटी ने जवाब दिया, “गरमी के दिनों में तो तुम आराम कर रहे थे। तुम जैसे आलसी को तो मैं एक दाना भी नहीं दे सकती।“
अब टिड्डे को समझ में आ गया कि आज की बचत ही कल काम आती है। उसने मन-ही-मन परिश्रम करने को ठान लिया।
