एक समय कि बात है । एक ब्राह्मण था और एक ब्राह्मणी थी । ब्राह्मण पूजा पाठ कर किसी तरह गुजर बसर चलाते थे । ब्राह्मणी चाहती थी कि वह रोज रोज सोने के नए ज़ेवर पहने । ब्राह्मण ने सोचा किसी तरह पत्नी को खुश करना चाहिए । बस, वे धन कमाने के लिए परदेस निकल पड़े ।
चलते-चलते रास्ते में उन्हें एक कुआँ मिला । ब्राह्मण कुएँ के किनारे पर बैठ गए और ज़ोर-शोर से गायत्री मंत्र पढ़ने लगे । उस कुएँ के अंदर एक चुडैल रहती थी। उसके कानों में मंत्रों की ध्वनि पड़ी। वह कएँ के बाहर आ गई और भयानक चुडैल से सुंदर-सी परी बन गई। असल में वह एक परी ही थी और एक शाप के कारण उसे चुडैल बनना पड़ा था ।
ब्राह्मण परी को देखकर चकरा गए । परी ने जब उनसे वरदान माँगने को कहा तो उन्हें अपनी पत्नी का खयाल आया । उन्होंने परी से कहा, “तुम मुझे ढेर सारे कीमती गहने दे दो।”
परी ने ब्राह्मण को तुरंत गहने दे दिए और उनसे कहा, “कुछ और माँगो।”
ब्राह्मण ने कहा, “मुझे रूप बदलने की शक्ति भी दे दो ।” परी ने ब्राह्मण को यह शक्ति भी दे दी ।”
अब ब्राह्मण गाँव की ओर लौट चले । रास्ते में उन्होंने एक सुंदर युवक का वेश धरा और अपने घर जा पहुँचे ।
युवक का वेश धरे ब्राह्मण ने अपनी पत्नी के पास पहुंचकर कहा, “तुम्हारा पति अब कभी नहीं लौटेगा । तुम मेरे संग विवाह कर लो । सदा सुखी रहोगी ।” कहते हुए उन्होंने गहनों की पोटली खोलकर ब्राह्मणी को दिखा दी ।

ब्राह्मणी गहनों को देखती रही । फिर उठाकर उन्हें आँगन के कुएँ में डाल दिया । रूप बदले ब्राह्मण ने आश्चर्य से पूछा, “यह क्या किया?”
ब्राह्मणी ने गहरी साँस लेते हुए उत्तर दिया, “जब वही नहीं रहे तो इन गहनों को लेकर क्या करूँगी?”
पत्नी की बात सुनकर ब्राह्मण ने फौरन अपना असली रूप धरा और पत्नी को सारी बातें बताई। उसके बाद दोनों सारी जिंदगी खूब सुख से रहे।

The Brahmin thought that somehow he should please his wife. Just, they set out to earn money. On the way, he found a well on the way. The Brahmin sat on the edge of the well and started reciting the Gayatri Mantra loudly. A chudail lived inside that well. Mantras sounded in his ears. She comes out of the can and becomes a beautiful angel with terrible chudail. Actually she was an angel and due to a curse she had to become a chudail. The Brahmin was shocked to see the angel. When the angel asked him to ask for a boon, he took care of his wife. He told the angel, “You give me a lot of precious jewels.” The angel immediately gave the jewel to the Brahmin and told him, “Ask for something else.” The Brahmin said, “Give me the power to change the form as well.” The angel also gave this power to the Brahmin. “ Now the Brahmin returned to the village. On the way, he disguised a beautiful young man and reached his home. Disguised as a young man, the Brahmin reached his wife and said, “Your husband will never return now.” You marry with me. Will always be happy. ” Saying this, he opened the bundle of jewels and showed it to the Brahmin. The Brahmin kept looking at the jewels. Then picked them up and put them in the courtyard well. The changed Brahmin asked in surprise, “What did it do?” The Brahmini took a deep breath and replied, “When he is no more, what will I do with these jewels?” After listening to the wife, the Brahmin immediately took his true form and told the wife all the things.
