There used to be a farmer in Lakhipur. He had only one daughter, named Chanda. Chanda was a very beautiful, noble and virtuous girl. One day she was returning from the forest after picking wood, then Bhanugupta, the youngest son of Nagar Seth, en route on her. He was returning from abroad at that time in connection with trade.


Seeing Chanda, he was fascinated by her look. He decided to marry her in his mind. He was married to Chanda a few days later. Chanda served her mother-in-law and brother-in-law day and night, trying to keep them happy, but they did not like her because of her poor family. Both his daughters were jealous of him because of his form and qualities. Both the elder sons of Seth were lazy and doodle. The entire business was handled by Bhanugupta. After a few days he was to go out again in connection with the business. Promising Chanda to return early, he leaves.


As soon as he left, the daughters of Chanda had fun. They harassed Chanda in many ways. She would do all the work, but both of them would take the credit themselves. Saying reverse things about her, she would fill her mother-in-law’s ears. Seth-Seethani also. Started being angry with Chanda.


One day angry at something, they expelled him from the house. On leaving the house, the weeping Chanda abandoned the idea of ​​going to Pihar with the fear that her going there would bring disgrace to the father. So she walked towards the dense forest. As the evening progressed, the evening progressed. He was in a bad condition due to hunger and thirst. Just then, he saw the twinkling lights of a lamp. Pleased, she went to that side. After reaching there, what she sees is that in the light of a lamp in a small hut there is an old spinning wheel. Chanda felt pity on seeing the old age.


She said to him- “Come mother, you must be tired. Now I spin in the spinning wheel.” The old lady was very happy to hear this. He said, “Okay daughter, now you spin the spinning wheel. Remember one thing, don’t stop spinning the spinning wheel till I come back.” Saying this, she left and sat down to spin Chanda Charkha. Despite being tired, she kept spinning the charkha all night. His hands started hurting, but the old lady did not come.


The old lady arrived as soon as dawn broke. Chanda was pleased to see the slaughter. Then he fed and fed him and gave him clothes to wear. When Chanda told her her story, her til was extinguished. He took out a lotus of gold from his bag. Giving her to Chanda, she said- “You are very kind girl. Keep this lota with you. It will help you in trouble. Do not sell it even if you need it. Now you go from here to the east direction. God willing, then All your troubles will be done. ” After taking the lotus, the old lady bowed and went towards the east.


After a long journey of two days, he entered a city. Being hungry and thirsty, she fell in front of a house. There lived an old husband and wife in that house. When they saw a woman lying unconscious outside their house, they took her inside. Started taking care of him. In two or three days, the donation became healthy. Within these three days, he realized that along with those husband and wife, sadness persists on the faces of all the people of the city.


When he asked the reason for this sadness, the old man said sadly- “What to tell, daughter, our kingdom was very happy at first. The king was also very healthy and full of attention to the kingdom. The only sadness was that the king had no children.” At the insistence of the queen, the king got a second marriage to get a child. Even though the child did not happen, our king continued to remain ill. Vaidyas from far and wide came to cure, but could not cure the king. On the other hand, due to the continuous theft in the treasury, the valuable goods of the country are being destroyed. The soldiers are not able to detect the chor. Do not know which disaster is raging on our country? Therefore every person remains depressed. “


Chanda also got upset after listening to the old man. She kept thinking for a long time. Then while thinking, she fell asleep. In the dream, he felt that the golden lota was calling him. When she went to Lotte, a voice came out of her – “Chanda, you become a physician immediately and go to King Veerasen. He is being poisoned a little bit every day by eating. That is why he remains unwell. Eliminate the troubles of this state, then your troubles will also be removed. ” Lota fell silent saying this. Chanda got up in a hurry. Remembering all the things, she was filled with surprise.

In the morning she got ready and walked towards Raj Bhavan. Hearing her message by the gatekeeper, the elder queen called her inside. The ailing king was lying on a bed in his room. Seeing his pulse, Chanda said to the queen- “Your Majesty, Maharaja must be fine. You have to accept one of my conditions. The king will eat only the food that ‘I will cook. Apart from that he will not eat anything.” The queen wanted to see the king healthy, she accepted the condition of quick donations. Now Chanda started living in the palace there. Used to cook the king with his hands and feed him. Used to drink water in a gold pot. Slowly, the king started getting healthy due to eating poisonous food and drinking miraculous lotus water.

One day while Chanda was sleeping in her room, then she had a dream that the golden lota is saying to her – ‘Chanda, one who is awake even when everyone is asleep, he is wise.’ Then Chanda’s eyes opened. She started trying to make sense of what Lotte had said.


The next day, after everyone fell asleep, Chanda kept awake. After midnight, he heard footsteps outside his room. She immediately became aware. From what he saw after that, he was not surprised. The next day she said to the king and the elder queen- “Maharaj, after midnight today I will show you a very strange incident. But till then no one should be aware of this.” The king and queen agreed. When night came, they both hid and sat in Chanda’s room. After midnight, when he saw the sound of footsteps outside the room and peeped out of the window, he was not surprised. He saw that the little queen was going through the corridor with her two maids. Two large baskets were placed at the ends of the maidens. “There is no treasure in it.” Raja thought in his mind and all three of them started hiding and chasing the little queen.


After a while the queen, along with her maids, moved up the stairs leading to the roof of the palace. She disappeared after reaching the final ladder. The king could not understand anything. Chanda took the two of them to the last step and pressed a nail studded into the wall there. Immediately the wall was removed from there. A path was visible that opened into a tunnel. They entered the tunnel. The little queen was not known anywhere. The king was surprised to see that the last end of the tunnel was opening in the enemy country. Now the king got some money from the treasury. They returned and slept peacefully.


The next day, when the king asked the little queen in front of him, the king asked sternly, he trembled with fear and told everything. He told that he is the intelligence of the enemy country. Fascinated by the beauty of his beautiful form, he married the king. Gradually, she joined the palace’s staff and took the treasure to her country. He also accepted the matter of poisoning the king. The same poison was added to the food of the king, so that by gradually becoming unhealthy, the king would ‘die and the enemy king should easily take possession of this country.


Hearing the poison, the king was in awe. But when Chanda said- “Yes Maharaj, you were given poison in food. That is why I started feeding you food made with my own hands.” Hearing the whole thing, the king punished the younger queen and all the servants who met her.


When the king came to know that Chanda was a destitute woman, he treated her as his daughter and gave him a place in the palace. Chanda started living there happily. Bhanugupta settled abroad. The business incurred such a huge loss that it became completely bankrupt. Somehow, I could reach home with great difficulty. He was shocked to see that in his absence both his brothers took away all the wealth of the father. His parents were spending a day of great distress. Chanda was not known anywhere. Shocked, he decided to find Chanda.


His parents also followed him. Searching, they came to the same city. One day they become distraught with hunger and enter the palace. Began to row in the line of beggars. Sharing food with the Queen among the beggars, Chanda saw her husband and mother-in-law in a shambles. She ran to him. By recognizing Chanda, Bhanugupta’s happiness did not stop.

Seth-Seethani also started apologizing to Chanda for his behavior. Chanda came to the king with everyone. He was also very happy. He gave Bhanugupta and his father a separate building to live in Raj Bhavan by giving them a good job.
